An oval race rewards consistency and precision, as the way to reduce laptimes is to keep the corner speed up. Go in too fast, though, and you'll scrub off speed, be slow down the next straightaway, and someone behind you will take advantage and you will lose your position. It's a delicate balance, and it is most certainly NOT as easy as hitting the gas and turning left.
